This is a program for those who want to spend a day photographing beautiful autumn leaves in Tokyo
Day 1.
09:00 - Yoyogi Park . The south side of the park that runs between Yoyogi-Koen Station and Harajuku Station has the most beautiful fall foliage, with numerous vibrant yellow ginkgo trees and scarlet maple trees.
10.30 - Shinjuku Gyoen Park is a large park with a variety of beautiful trees and flowers to enjoy. Here you can see the traditional Japanese landscape garden that has some of the wonderful maple, ginkgo, cherry and many other trees in the park.
13:30 - Icho Nakami Avenue This is one of Tokyo's most iconic autumn spots. Icho Namiki Avenue with rows of ginkgo trees has a pleasant fragrance, floating in the wind. At the end of autumn, when the two rows of ginkgo trees turn into brilliant yellow leaves, this place becomes a paradise for photographers.
19:00 - Rikugien Garden , a traditional Japanese landscape garden with beautiful autumn foliage. In the fall, it's open until 9 p.m., with last entry at 8:30 p.m., coinciding with evening illuminations. Be aware that it can get crowded after work, but it's also one of the few places in Tokyo to see autumn colors at night, with the red foliage reflecting off the beautiful shimmering lake.
Day 2
09:00 - Koishikawa Korakuen Park This is a beautiful Japanese garden in central Tokyo and is considered one of the best places to see autumn leaves. The red and crimson maple trees contrast brilliantly with the green pines creating beautiful angles. What's more, these and reflections are beautiful in the large central pond.
11:00 - Yasukuni Shrine This place is a short 15-minute walk from Ichigaya Station. Yasukuni Shrine isn't commonly known as an autumnal spot, but there are some lovely ginkgo trees on the grounds. You should walk across the street to your next destination.
11:30 - East Garden of the Imperial Palace It is beautiful at all times of the year and even more so with its splashes of red and orange during autumn. Besides the common maples, there are other deciduous trees such as the sawtooth oak and the wax tree. On weekdays, this place is usually quite peaceful and quiet. You can start by wandering through Chidorigafuchi Park before entering the East Garden of the Imperial Palace, heading east.
14:30 - Hamarikyu Garden After a leisurely lunch, make your way to Hamarikyu Garden. This is another Japanese garden set among the tall skyscrapers and office buildings of Shimbashi and Shiodome. Although not considered one of the main autumn leaf viewing spots in Tokyo, there are still very beautiful foliage here. Plus, the view of Tokyo's skyline beyond the seawater pond, including Tokyo Tower in the distance, is quite special.
20:00 - Meguro River While the Meguro River is traditionally known as a cherry blossom viewing spot, it is also a very enjoyable stroll in the autumn evening when the cherry trees turn golden red blazing. There may also be fewer crowds than in spring.
