Profile
Since opening in 1940, Okakita has been a favorite with locals for 80 years with their Kyoto-style udon and soba noodles.
Continuing to keep the taste of the first generation while adding a new taste of Kyoto, this place's udon and sobi noodles attract many gourmets. The secret is the homemade broth with the recipe that comes from the efforts of the first owner, who spent 17 years creating the recipe with his own flavors, and the second generation owner, who also spent years to preserve that quality and delicious taste. The delicious special broth with thin noodles handmade from Kyoto wheat and vegetables and the bean pods is a perfect and delicate combination. One of the most popular items on the menu is Kitsune Udon noodles. You can order an extra plate of deep-fried tofu cooked with sweet soy sauce brought in from a nearby tofu specialty store every morning. Crispy tofu and lots of finely chopped green onions go well. The variety of rice bowls is also a must try!
There are more than 15 noodle dishes on the menu, however, among them, Ten-toji (tempura cooked with eggs) is an authentic Kyoto noodle dish. The taste of soft Udon noodles becomes more subtle when served with natural kombu kelp extract soup. All Udon dishes can also be redeemed for Soba, which means many customers have lined up even before the restaurant opens at 11am. As there is always such a large queue, we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before opening. While waiting in line, you can enjoy the incredible aroma of kombu from the restaurant.
Recommended items to try include Kitsune Udon Noodles: ¥750 ; Tanuki Udon Noodles: ¥850 ; Nishin Soba Noodles: 1,000
