Located a five-minute walk from Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae subway station. Head north along the Takase River, and you'll see a stone wall. At first, you might think it's a large piece of land, but you'll soon come across the entrance to the famous kaiseki restaurant, Ganko Takasegawa-Nijoen. Ganko Takasegawa-Nijoen was originally the mansion of Edo period business magnate Suminokura Ryoi and later that of Yamagata Aritomo, the Meiji Prime Minister. This historic building has occupied the same spot for 200 to 300 years. The restaurant has a spacious Japanese garden that hardly anyone would expect in the middle of Kyoto. Contrasting with the impressive garden, the food is delicately and delicately prepared. Meals are reasonably priced from around 3,000 yen, and an extensive a la carte menu with individual dishes is also available.
