Đền Shimogamo-Jinja

Shimogamo Jinja Shrine is one of the oldest temples in Kyoto, built during the Heian period (794-1185) located in the triangle between the Kamo-gawa and Takano-gawa rivers. Here, people come to pray for the peace of the people in the country. With precious historical values, in 1994 Shimogamo Jinja Shrine was recognized as a World Heritage Site.

On the west side of the shrine is the shrine of "Kamo Taketsunumi no mikoto", the god who discovered ancient Kyoto and is considered the protector of Kyoto . To the east of the shrine is the shrine of "Tama-yori-hime no mikoto", the god of love and child rearing.

Kamigamo-jinja Shrine and Shimogamo-jinja Shrine are collectively known as Kamo-jinja Shrine, and both of these shrines hold the Aoi matsuri (also known as "Kamo-sai"). This is one of the 3 biggest and most important festivals in Tokyo

In the temple area, in addition to the main temple, there are also auxiliary shrines such as "Mitsui-jinja" - worshiping 3 gods: "Kamo Taketsunumi no mikoto", "Tama-yori-hime no mikoto", "Igakoya-hime", or Shrine "Mitarashinoyashiro" - is being worshiped above the well - where pure water flows, or "Maidono" - where the Emperor's messengers will give sacrifices on the occasion of Aoi matsuri, "Bashidono" shrine - where used as a stage for performing ceremonies and performing arts, "Hosodono" electricity - the place where tea parties, singing parties take place...

In addition to the ancient look, inside the temple there is a very large "Tadasu No Mori" forest, which is a primeval forest. In the forest, there are 4 small rivers flowing through, there are about 4,700 ancient trees of 40 different species, mainly broad-leaved trees, this is where the Aoi and Yabusame rituals take place.

The forest is a walking place for the people of Kyoto city. In the red leaf season and the young leaf season every year, this place has an ancient and splendid beauty that makes many tourists come to visit and enjoy the wonderful beauty that the scenery here brings.
