Regarded as the most elegant shopping mall in Kyoto, Takashimaya is where you should go to see how luxurious a shopping mall in Japan can be.
Kyoto residents and foreign residents like to debate which is better: Takashimaya or Daimaru. Luckily, you don't have to choose which side as they are located less than 10 minutes apart on Shijo, in downtown Kyoto. Takashimaya is a bit more elegant, with a wider selection of souvenirs, and the restaurant floor (not to be confused with the food basement) is better here than in Daimaru.
