This course is for anyone with an interest in feudal Japan and the prominent warrior class that was the samurai at the time. The course usually lasts from 60 minutes to 90 minutes. When you join, you will be introduced to the basics of samurai art, and watch a short film about ancient warriors. You will then practice more complex movements using a sword or folding fan. The instructor here will teach you from bowing, drawing a samurai sword, and attacking with stylized movements. There is also a fan dance class in the course because there was a time in the past when swords were outlawed in Japan and banned from use. During such times they adapted sword dances using fans instead of blades, and after the sword was restored, the fan dance is still preserved today. When your class is over, you have a photo session in your samurai outfit and receive a certificate of completion. Obviously this is a great activity for families with kids or everyone regardless of age. Taking a show and a lesson at Samurai and a lesson at Samurai Kembu is a great way to spend a few hours while visiting the ancient capital of Kyoto.
