Open-Air Museum of Old Japanese Farmhouses - Open-air museum of old Japanese farmhouses is an excellent collection of 12 traditional Japanese farmhouses. Each farm was shipped from all over central Japan and rebuilt here, complete with authentic tools and furniture inside. Well worth a visit

This open-air museum of Old Japanese Farms located in the town of Toyonaka north of Osaka, an open-air museum with 12 minka (Traditional Japanese Farms) history dating back to the Edo period across Japan . It is a hidden but surprisingly popular site, with about 37,000 people visiting each year, including about 3,100 visitors from outside of Japan.

Visiting the Open Air Museum of Old Japanese Farms isn't quite the same as a trip to Shirakawa-go, but the overall sentiment is quite similar. You get exactly what it says on the label: dozens of traditional Japanese minka farms carefully recreated in a beautiful green space. The Edo-era farms here vary from the 17th to the 19th centuries and were originally located in places as diverse as Fukui, Miyazaki and Nagano prefectures. Each house has an English signboard outside with a brief explanation and you will be able to compare different types of roofing techniques, gain a better understanding of traditional farming tools, etc. The museum is staffed by a mix of volunteers and full-timers, and they're often on hand to answer questions - some speak good English - and show off the traditional fireplace lighting. system (irori). It's no surprise that it's also a popular location for filming historical TV shows and movies. If you're lucky, you might get a shot while you're there. Even if you don't, there are all kinds of events you can take part in, from concerts to tea ceremonies to kimono-wearing events. Admission is only 500 JPY - too small an amount for the effort spent to maintain and preserve these beautiful farms. This may not be the first place most people think of when they arrive in Osaka, but making a trip north is well worth your time. One small downside is that this open air museum is not right next to the station. You will have to walk about a kilometer from Ryokuchi-Koen Station on the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Line to get here and then there will be more walking to explore the park. Don't let that deter you, though - just make sure you leave enough time in your day to see all the farms at your own pace. Plus, you can always explore the surrounding Hattori Ryokuchi Park afterwards.
