Rockefeller Center

Rockefeller Center is a large complex of 19 commercial buildings built on 89,030 square meters (22 acres) of land located between 48th Street and 51st Street, downtown Manhattan. Originally, the Rockefeller neighborhood consisted of 14 Art Deco buildings, stretching from Fifth Avenue to Sixth Avenue, around a low square and a private street called Rockefeller Plaza. The 75 Rockefeller Plaza building on 51st Street at the north end of Rockefeller Plaza and four buildings on the west side of Sixth Avenue were added to the latter complex. Every year, the Rockefeller attracts thousands of visitors from many different places to admire the Art Deco architecture and the shops surrounding Rockefeller Plaza.

The ground floor area is home to an outdoor skating rink popular with both tourists and locals, the bronze Atlas statue and the "Today Show plaza". Higher, the Top of the Rock observation deck offers views that rival the Empire State Building. Another distinctive feature about Rockefeller is the Art Deco-style wall sculptures on the buildings.

In particular, Rockefeller is famous for its Christmas tree decorated with bright lights every Christmas season. Millions of tourists as well as locals often flock here to admire the splendid decorations and enjoy the lively Christmas atmosphere.

For New Yorkers, Rockefeller also has economic significance. Since construction began in 1930, Rockfeller has helped the city through the Great Depression by hiring about 40,000 people for construction. The first Christmas tree in the center is said to have been erected by workers a few years before becoming an important Rockefeller tradition. Today, thousands of people are still working in the buildings here.

- Sightseeing around without buying tickets. However, visitors must purchase tickets for the Ice Rink , the Top of the Rock viewing area, and visit the inside of the building.
