Jazz Festival is a cultural event held every July in Istanbul, Turkey. During the festival period, visitors can enjoy jazz performances with the participation of famous artists from all over the world. The festival was first organized in 1994 and is run by the Istanbul Arts and Culture Foundation. The main sponsor of the festival is Garanti BBVA.
The festival was first launched with a concert organized by Chick Corea and Steve Kujala on July 8, 1984 as part of the Istanbul Music Festival. This concert sparked more and more jazz events throughout the years that followed. Starting in 1986, jazz music was on the show. Since 1994, the Istanbul Jazz Festival has also hosted performances for rock, pop, blues, reggae and New-age artists. The Istanbul Jazz Festival is a founding member of the International Jazz Festival Organization (IJFO for short), which hosted the festival from 1998 to 2001.
Musicians who appeared at the festival include George Benson, Jane Birkin, Björk, Goran Bregovic, Nick Cave, Eric Clapton, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, Ornette Coleman, Randy Crawford, Dead Can Dance, Miles Davis, Deep Forest and There are many other famous people.
The free shows held in some of the parks are well worth a visit. However, these locations are located in some places far from the city center, so you will need to get there by taxi or public bus.
