Profile
A favorite spot for both professional and amateur chefs, Kappabashi Kitchenware Town is within walking distance of Asakusa's Sensoji Temple and Tokyo Metropolitan Ueno Park. The central entrance to all things cooking is guarded by a giant statue of a chef, complete with a towering white hat. The main street and side streets of the utensil district. The kitchen has about 170 stores, offering everything from high-quality Japanese knives and lacquerware to high-end stoves. Most stores are open to the public, so you can get great deals on tableware, kitchen tools, and many other useful little gadgets you never knew you needed. Be sure to stop by the sample food stores, where you can see surreal plastic versions of a variety of dishes and ingredients. Sushi magnets and food-themed smartphone cases are particularly popular souvenirs, as are noren blinds, porcelain mugs, and fanciful chopstick holders. Even if you're not in the mood to shop, Kappabashi is also worth a visit to see the meticulously decorated facades and signs. Besides the aforementioned giant chef, you'll find giant knives, egg beaters and teacups decorating the buildings. Kids will have a great time looking for the many cute statues of the kappa, the mythical water from which the street gets its name
