Profile
Located on Hua Hin Soi 84, this branch was the first to open and today remains the company's headquarters and main showroom, run by third-generation owners. The design has been modernized to meet the needs of today's consumers, although you'll also find traditional models dating back to the company's early days.
Founded in 1948, by Prince Bovoradej and Prince Pajongchitr Kridakorn of the Royal Family. Khomapastr began its days in what was then a secluded seaside resort town of Hua Hin. Prince Bovoradej developed an interest in dyeing and weaving while living in exile in Saigon during the 1930s. And pursued this hobby when he returned to Thailand after World War II. Attracted by its charm and tranquility, the Prince and Princess decided to settle in Hua Hin. Where they built a dyeing, printing and weaving small business on the family property. With great dedication, Prince Bovoradej has conducted extensive research into traditional Thai designs. And together with a team of design experts, worked tirelessly to develop processes for screen printing these designs onto cotton fabrics.
As part of this effort, the National Museum of Thailand has granted him unprecedented access to its archive of traditional Thai designs. And extensive advice was sought from foreign experts on the technical aspects of the textile printing process.
The business proved difficult at first. In response to this, Prince Bovoradej and Princess Pajongchitr began to expand the range of designs and products. To develop a more contemporary design collection, depicting different aspects of the Thai lifestyle. Designs such as “Rice Farmers”, the “Dek Hua Juk” series and “Hua Hin Perspectives” were printed and then sewn into handkerchiefs and scarves.
Sold through a small beachside kiosk, these products have become popular with visitors as well as locals. Business started to thrive.
Over the years, Khomapastr has continued to expand its product range, using exclusive designs to produce a wide range of unique printed apparel fabrics, home furnishing fabrics and a wide variety of objects. gift products. Probably the most important; is an evolution of the Golden Hand Print or 'Lai Pa Kiao' design, a design traditionally used as garments or 'Pha Nung', worn by the Royal Family of Thailand.
During the 1960s, the National Theater of Thailand invited Khomapastr to adapt this unique design for silkscreen printing and use cloth as costumes for their works.
Today Gold Hand Print has become synonymous with Khomapastr and the company remains the sole official manufacturer of this unique design. Khomapastr is still under family management and celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2008, with the opening of a new showroom and factory in Hua Hin. The ceremony was presided over by Princess Maha Chakri Siridhon of the Royal Family. A true testament to Khomapastr's achievements over the past 60 years.
We hope to continue the tradition started by Prince Bovoradej and Princess Pajongchitr and strive to preserve the "Khomapastr Heritage" for many years to come, said the head of Khomapastr.
Khompapastr's products range from lifestyle to home decoration, mainly found in palaces, luxury hotels and private homes. The brand's signature design - the Gold Hand Print (or 'phase kiao') - can be traced back to the 15th century, when it was used primarily in court. Production involves a meticulous hand-painting process using natural dyes and gold leaf.
The gift collection includes a wide range of contemporary designs and lifestyle products, including tote bags, tissue cases, wallets, stickers and other lingerie. Colorful and unique, these make the ideal gift for family and friends back home.
Apparel fabrics are the backbone of the Khompapastr brand and these fabrics have led to hit products such as clothing and fashion accessories. The collection features more than 1,000 designs, from traditional Thai motifs to patterns and graphics, each showcasing exquisite details and high quality finishes.
