Profile
Wat Yansangwararam (locally known as Wat Yan) is about a 30-minute drive from central Pattaya. Wat Yansangwararam was built in 1976, and although relatively modern, it is one of the most important temples in the Pattaya area as it is under the patronage of the King. Many of Wat Yan's buildings and gardens cover an area of approximately 146 acres (approximately 366 rai), the temple is dedicated to Supreme Patriarch Somdet Phra Yanasangwon.
Wat Yansangwararam contains many priceless Buddhist relics, attributed to Buddha and his disciples, and replicas of Buddha's footprints. When you enter the Temple complex, the first building you will see is Viharn Sien, a Chinese temple and museum with a beautiful collection of Chinese artifacts and antiquities, one of its kind. in Thailand.
The main building of Wat Yansangwararam or Wat Yan for short, is known for its modern design and is built in a very different style than most Thai temples. A pavilion called a mondop or mandapa contains a replica of Buddha's footprints. Inside a large white stupa (a Buddhist stupa) a number of relics of the Buddha and his followers are kept.
Several buildings of different architectural styles such as Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Lanna Thai and Swiss can be seen in the Wat Yan complex. Besides the temples, there are several monuments, including one of King Prajadhipok.
Wat Yansangwararam was built in 1976 to honor the Supreme Patriarch Somdej Phra Yanasangworn, who was then the head of the Thai Monastic Congregation. Now, the complex is under the patronage of the previous King of Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX). Standing at a certain position in the Wat Yan temple complex, you can see the giant golden Buddha mountain (Khao Cheejan) in the distance.
Ideally, it would be possible to visit Wat Yansangwararam and Viharn Sien together in one day. The large gardens and lake create a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, very suitable for relaxation, you can buy food and drink at the restaurant.
This complex is usually quiet, except on Thai holidays and weekends, when it can get busy with Thais. If you want to try meditation, daily classes are held at Wat Yansangwararam at 6am and 6pm.
The Wat Yansangwararam temple complex is located about 15 km south of Pattaya at the 160 km exit of Sukhumvit Road. The best way to get there is by taking a local songthaew, also known as a baht bus, or you can hire a taxi. A more comfortable ride would be a private taxi. You can book one through your hotel.
