Ba Son Bridge (officially Thủ Thiêm 2 Bridge) is located in Bến Nghé Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. It crosses the Saigon River, connecting District 1 with the Thủ Thiêm New Urban Area (District 2, now part of Thủ Đức City).
If you wonder which districts Ba Son Bridge connects, the answer is District 1 and District 2 – two of the most dynamic urban centers in Ho Chi Minh City.
Many people ask how many kilometers Ba Son Bridge is. In fact, the bridge is about 1.465 km long (nearly 1.5 km), with the main span measuring 200 m.
In terms of construction, Ba Son Bridge was built in 2015 and officially inaugurated in April 2022. It is considered one of the most modern cable-stayed bridges in Vietnam, with a 113 m high A-shaped tower that serves as a striking landmark in the city center.
The name comes from the Ba Son Shipyard – one of the oldest shipyards in Saigon. The French term “Bassin de radoub” (dry dock) was locally pronounced as “Ba Son.”
The bridge was named to commemorate this historic site, closely associated with President Hồ Chí Minh and President Tôn Đức Thắng.
Beyond its prime location, Ba Son Bridge is an architectural highlight with:
A cable-stayed design featuring a 113 m A-shaped tower
A modern LED lighting system with color-changing effects
A perfect combination of transportation function and urban aesthetics
A common question is “Can you walk on Ba Son Bridge?” The answer is yes.
The bridge has a dedicated pedestrian walkway, making it a great spot for locals and visitors to stroll, enjoy the view of the Saigon River, or capture the city skyline with Landmark 81 and Bitexco Tower.
From Ba Son Bridge, you can admire:
The winding Saigon River
The panoramic view of Thủ Thiêm New Urban Area
Iconic skyscrapers such as Landmark 81 and Bitexco Tower
At night, Ba Son Bridge shines with dazzling LED lights. The A-shaped tower, cable-stayed structure, and vibrant lighting make it one of the hottest photo spots in Ho Chi Minh City.
Ba Son Bridge is not only a key traffic route but also a link to many must-visit attractions in Saigon. Depending on your destination, here are the routes:
Drive straight across the bridge toward District 2 and you’ll reach the heart of Thủ Thiêm, with major roads like Vòng Cung Boulevard and Mai Chí Thọ Avenue. This area features a central square, riverside park, and modern complexes.
From the District 1 side, descend the bridge and turn onto Tôn Đức Thắng Street for about 1 km to reach Bạch Đằng Wharf – a great spot for sightseeing, river cruises, and riverside cafés.
From the District 1 end, follow Tôn Đức Thắng Street and turn onto Nguyễn Huệ Street. In just 5 minutes, you’ll arrive at Nguyễn Huệ Walking Street, the city’s hub for culture, entertainment, and events.
Right under the District 1 side of the bridge is Saigon Riverside Park, also known as Ba Son Park. It’s an ideal place for walking, relaxing, and taking photos after crossing the bridge.
Visit early in the morning or at sunset for the best lighting and photography conditions
Follow traffic rules and do not stop in the middle of the bridge, as it’s a main traffic route
Wear comfortable clothes for walking. Many locals jog or walk across the bridge, so sportswear is a good choice if you want to join them on the pedestrian path
