The name comes from the Ba Son Shipyard – one of the oldest shipyards in Saigon. The French term “Bassin de radoub” (dry dock) was locally pronounced as “Ba Son.”

The bridge was named to commemorate this historic site, closely associated with President Hồ Chí Minh and President Tôn Đức Thắng.
