Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is the business and financial center of Vietnam, with an outstanding history of hundreds of years. The Khmer initially settled the area, which was then taken over by the Vietnamese in the 17th century. The French captured Saigon, as it was then called, in 1859, and made it the capital of South Vietnam. United States in 1862 and giving the city many elegant architecture, wide boulevards still exist today.

The city has recovered in the 30 years since the war, with a current population of over 7 million. It was renamed Ho Chi Minh City, after Vietnam's spiritual leader, but people still call the city's central area Saigon.

Today, Ho Chi Minh City is a popular tourist destination thanks to its fascinating culture, classical French architecture, and sleek skyscrapers and ornate temples. The city also has plenty of rooftop bars overlooking Saigon and beyond, while excellent restaurants offer a fusion of French, Chinese and, of course, Vietnamese cuisine.
