Monsignor Tran Quoc Nghien is known as the eldest son of the most talented general in Vietnamese history, Tran Hung Dao (Tran Quoc Tuan). Tran Quoc Nghien and his father Tran Quoc Tuan made many resounding victories to defeat the Mongols, especially the battle on the Bach Dang River in 1288, with his merits clearly recorded. According to the stele in the temple area, the temple dates back to 1913 and was erected by boat owners passing through here to commemorate his merits.
