According to records, around 1649 in China, when the Qing Dynasty usurped the Ming Dynasty to establish the Manchu Dynasty, a group of Qing generals, after an unsuccessful rise, brought their whole family across the sea. Vietnam and was allowed by Lord Nguyen to settle in Hoi An.
Since then, a number of architectural works were built by the Chinese for the purpose of serving spiritual and cultural life, in which, it is impossible not to mention the Fujian Assembly Hall. This is one of the most typical works for Chinese architecture with yin and yang tile roofs, traditional three-way gate.
The campus of the Fujian Assembly Hall has many different parts including: the main hall, two rows of east-west houses, the backyard, the back hall and some decorative details such as lakes and ornamental plants.
Initially, the assembly hall was built with a completely wooden structure, but later, after many restorations, some wooden parts were changed with other materials with higher durability.
The Fujian Assembly Hall is a place to worship Thien Hau Thanh Mau, she helps people avoid storms and dangers in Chinese beliefs. Along with that is the god Thien Ly Nhan and the god Thuan Phong Nhi, who are the two auxiliary gods for Thanh Mau. Besides, the assembly hall also worships the Tien Hien, the God of Wealth, the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, the three pregnant queens, and the twelve midwives. At the same time, the assembly hall is also a meeting place for the Chinese community in Hoi An.
Legend has it that the Fujian Assembly Hall is very sacred, so everyone visiting Hoi An comes here to pray for health and fortune for themselves and their families. Every year on major holidays such as Nguyen Tieu (full moon of the first lunar month), Thien Hau's soul, ... the assembly hall regularly organizes large festival activities that attract many people to attend.
The Fujian Assembly Hall was granted the certificate of National Historical and Cultural Relic on February 17, 1990. Visiting the assembly hall, visitors not only have the opportunity to learn about the unique features of Chinese beliefs. but also can admire the unique artistic architecture created by the talented hands of the craftsman.
