Profile
The 100-year-old French building located next to Ben Thanh market has been transformed by Malaysian chef Adrian Chong Yen and his wife Suri, who specializes in interior design, transforming the old space into an airy and stylish restaurant. Green Mediterranean with a hint of hot Latin America.
When walking up the stairs to enter Sol Kitchen & Bar, the main white space is adorned with rustic bamboo and rattan chandeliers, simple lighting devices. The beautifully arched walkways and potted plants decorate the walls and ceilings as if to welcome diners into the South of Europe, famous for its pristine beaches of sunshine and white sand.
Chef and restaurateur, Adrian chooses South American cuisine because it also has rich hot, sour and salty flavors, reminiscent of the food origins of his Malaysian homeland. The menu at Sol Kitchen leans towards Latin American cuisine with Empanada starters, Peruvian Ceviche and Argentinian-inspired BBQ main courses. However, other items on the menu also carry influences from across the continent. In addition, Chef Adrian also pledges that all ingredients are carefully selected and locally sourced, as evidenced by imported fish such as tuna and salmon being replaced with swordfish and salmon. Carp for Ceviche. Finally, there is a great combination of many Asian-style spices, creating creativity for the taste of each dish.
Sol Kitchen & Bar is not only famous for its food but also for its diverse cocktail menu, designed by Kat Phuong Khanh, a young talent who won the runner-up prize of the World Class Vietnam competition at the end of July 2019. Special cocktails Featured here is the Margarita, a creation that uses ingredients sourced from Mexican cuisine to give diners a unique savory and slightly sour taste. The "Asian" version of the Cosmopolitan glass with the added flavor of Japanese yuzu instead of grapefruit will also create a new experience for diners.
