Every year on the weekend of August, Frankfurt hosts a vibrant three-day festival to show appreciation for its valuable museums and picturesque riverside setting. This unique combination serves as a popular platform to showcase Frankfurt's institutions and cultural figures. With an attendance of approximately 2.5 million visitors, stage shows, projects and presentations, the Museum Embarkment festival is one of the largest cultural events in Europe. Art, culture and liberating the mind merge over three days into one spectacular festival.

The festival carries a central theme and changes every year. The main theme can be a selected country or the content and theme of a museum to convey to attendees. Some of the themes of previous years are “South Africa”, “Greece”, “Japan”, “Modern Art” and “Children”. The idea behind this concept is to highlight the identity of the theme culture so that it is not overshadowed by other cultures of the festival and enhance understanding for the attendees.
