Burgtheater Vienna (literally: "Castle Theater" but translated as "Imperial Court Theater), one of the most famous national theaters of Austria and the world. Burgtheater Vienna was built in 1888 on Ring Avenue, opposite Rathausplatz square. The theater has a capacity of 1,175 seats, 85 standing seats and 12 seats for disabled people. The stage is 28.5 meters wide, 23 meters deep and 28 meters high. Burgtheater Vienna has a long history, dating back to 1741, when Queen Maria Theresa rented out a vacant ballroom near the Hofburg palace to theater troupes. This was the golden age of German-language dramatic art in Vienna. In 1794, the theater was renamed KK Hoftheater nächst der Burg (Royal Theater near the castle). In 1918, the theater was transferred to government management. In 1922, the theater added an additional stage, the Akademietheater on Liszt Street. In 1945, the theater was bombed and burned, and the troupe had to move to the Ronacher Theater for 10 years. In 1955, the theater was rebuilt in its old shape but with more modern equipment.

The theater also has a democratic tradition, with very reasonable ticket prices, from only 4 euros for a standing seat. Burgtheater Vienna is a cultural destination worth a visit when in Vienna. You can get here by public transport, such as tram 1, 71, D or metro U3. You can also park in the underground BOE car park in Rathaus or the WIPARK car park in Freyung. The area around the theater is a short-term parking area from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
