Alsagoff Arab School was founded in 1912 on the legacy of the last will of its founder and benefactor Syed Mohamed B Ahmed Alsagoff. Students here are taught Islamic knowledge and the Arabic language, as well as reading and writing in English and Malay. This organization provided education for all the Muslims living in Colonial Singapore at that time. At that time in Singapore's history, only a few schools were established and this was a rare opportunity for the Muslim community to pursue their education.

Today, Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah has about 300 students enrolled in a 12-year education program. During the first 10 years at the Primary and Secondary level, students build a strong foundation in Islamic subjects, learning and memorizing the Quran and hadith, as well as other essential subjects including tafsir, tauhid, fiqh, sirah (Islamic history) and akhlak.

Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah is mostly self-funded through Syed Mohamed Ahmed Alsagoff (SMA) Wakaf, with occasional grants from the Council of Islamic Religions of Singapore (MUIS) and contributions from society. Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah is recognized as a heritage school by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).
