Chiang Mai City Arts and Culture Center is located in the former Royal hall on Prapoklao Road. Built in 1924 with an elegant architectural design, the building was first used as the central administrative office of Monthon Phayap, then as Chiang Mai's City Hall until it was remodeled. and upgraded to a cultural center in 1997. The restoration of the center earned it an award from the Royal Society of Siamese Architects in 1999.
The center was established to promote understanding of Chiang Mai's roots, foster a sense of pride in local identity, and preserve cultural beauty. The center is divided into two areas, in front of which are various exhibits including photos, old artefacts, maps... in addition, it is also equipped with an impressive audio-visual display depicting history. of Chiang Mai from the first settlers to the development of the city.
