Profile
Tonsai Waterfall is located to the west of Khao Phra Thaeo National Park, a green area covering an area of about 22 square kilometers. There is a 2 km long trail beside the waterfall that goes through the oldest forest in Phuket. If you are a nature lover and want to spend a day adventure here then you should take the hike from Tonsai Falls to Bang Pae Falls.
There is an information center where you can hire a guide who will help you better understand the interesting animals and plants along the way. Note that all posters and notices are written in Thai. Cold drinks and snacks are often available at a small restaurant near the information center, which you can purchase to prepare for your trip.
If you are interested in tropical plants, you will enjoy seeing rare white-backed palm trees. It has the scientific name kerriodoxa elegans, a species of palm found only in Thailand and was first discovered in the national park in 1929. This elegant palm has beautiful large round fan-shaped leaves, green top and white underside.
In addition, Tonsai Falls is a great place for birdwatching as the rainforest is home to colorful local birds, such as the red-billed malkoha, the racket-tailed drongo or the red-backed sea eagle. Some of the migratory birds that you can spot here include the Siberian blue zebra and the forest magpie.
Tonsai Waterfall is an interesting place for your Phuket trip. There are also facilities at the falls such as restrooms, parking, well-kept gardens, a small playground, rest areas and camping spots. Here you can also interact with the locals and join them in jumping into the small natural lake to immerse themselves in the cool water.
