Profile
Beitou District in Taipei is located at the foot of Yangmingshan Mountain. It is the only hot spring in Taiwan accessible by MRT, making it one of the most convenient and unique hot spring destinations in Asia.
Visitors to Beitou Taiwan can easily escape the city hustle while still staying within Taipei.
Xinbeitou Hot Spring Village is home to over 1,200 plant species, 110 bird species, and 160 butterflies. It offers travelers a lush environment to relax and enjoy the serenity of nature.
Liuhuanggu Valley and Longfenggu Valley provide the “white sulfur” water for many hot spring baths.
Thermal Valley Beitou is known for its “green sulfur” acidic hot spring, famous for the unique Hokutolite mineral, only found in Beitou.
The “iron sulfur” spring near Xingyi Road further enriches the diversity of Beitou’s hot springs.
Beitou can be visited year-round, but November–December is the best season. Spring and autumn are also suitable, while summer evenings are perfect for indoor hot spring baths.
The Xinbeitou MRT line was first built in 1916, stretching 1.2 km from the Danshui line. Rebuilt and restored in 2017, it remains an iconic route to access Beitou Hot Spring.
Located near Xinbeitou station, the Beitou Hot Spring Park is crossed by streams from Thermal Valley. Visitors can stroll, enjoy nature, or soak their feet for free at Fuxing Hot Foot Bath, just 5 minutes away.
Built in 2002, this 12-story museum exhibits indigenous Taiwanese culture and art, named after the Ketagalan tribe, the original inhabitants of Beitou.
Constructed in 2006, it is Taiwan’s first “green building” library. Designed like a wooden ship, it uses solar energy and rainwater recycling. Today, it is one of the most photographed spots near Beitou Hot Spring.
Tenguan Hotel (1896) was the first hot spring hotel in Beitou.
Today, there are over 20 hot spring hotels in Beitou District, offering private hot spring rooms (湯屋) or public baths. Luxury resorts like Radium Kagaya International bring authentic Japanese hospitality to Beitou.
Known as “Hell Valley,” Thermal Valley Beitou is a scenic green sulfur lake constantly covered in mist. Visitors can view it up close in the park or from Wenquan Road above the valley.
Opening hours: 9:00 – 17:00 daily (closed on Mondays)
Entrance: Free for Thermal Valley and Ketagalan Cultural Center
Private hot spring rooms: 400 – 3000 NT (60–90 minutes for 2 people), with most hotels charging 1000–1500 NT. Some include meals.
