Taroko National Park, located in the east of Taiwan and established on November 28, 1986, covers an area of more than 92,000 hectares in the northern part of the Central Mountains. This park has beautiful high mountains and ravines. The park was established with a special purpose for the environmental protection movement in Taiwan as well as preserving the unique natural ecosystem in this area.

Taroko National Park, in the eastern part of Taiwan, covers an area of more than 92,000 hectares (920 square kilometers) in the northern part of the Central Mountains. It is located at the intersection of three districts: Hualian, Taichung and Nantou. The park has many high mountains and steep canyons, with many peaks above 3,000 meters and many natural watersheds. The breathtaking Taroko Gorge and the stunning beauty of the Liwu River can be enjoyed in panoramic views from the Central Cross-Island Highway. Numerous waterfalls, diverse forms of plant and animal life, and indigenous Taroko peoples together make up the rich fabric of this unique natural ecosystem.

The park is surrounded by the Dajia River to the north, the Zhuoshui River to the west, and the Shanzhan and Mugua Rivers to the east. The Liwu River is the widest river in the region; Its drainage basin covers 2/3 of the park. Mountains more than 2,000 meters high cover half of the park area. Of the peaks listed in the "One Hundred Peaks of Taiwan" list, 27 are located in Taroko National Park. Of these, the most famous is the majestic Mt. Nanhu, Hehuan Snow Cap and Qilai Peak.

In addition to the majesty of the mountains, Taroko Park also has beautiful and famous waterfalls such as Baiyang waterfall, Yindai waterfall, Changchun waterfall and Lushui waterfall. Swallow Grotto (Yanzikou) and Tunnel of Nine Turns (Jiuqudong) are the most impressive natural scenes in Taroko.

Thanks to its special geography, this place is also home to and preserves the special flora and fauna species in this area.
