"As one of the largest squares in Europe, the French atmosphere here is passionate over coffee, vibrant in the lyrics of street artists and live music performances."

Bellecour Square is located north of Ainey, right in the center of Lyon, between the rivers Le Rhône and La Saône. Nearby attractions include the Cathedral of Lyon, the old town and also the beautiful bridges.

Bellecour Square is the meeting point in the center of Lyon. Located on a peninsula between the city's two rivers, this is also a familiar dating place for locals and tourists. In the center of the square is a statue of King Louis XIV riding a horse.

Surrounded by a spacious pedestrian area are magnificent structures that always attract the camera lens of passing visitors. In those majestic buildings are also the headquarters of the tourist office and the central post office of the city. Restaurants and cafes with tables that extend all the way to the square are ideal places to dine. Just watching the noisy crowd, sipping a cup of coffee or wine also has its own beauty. Nearby streets are filled with luxury shops and attractions, such as the Opera Nouvel and Lyon Cathedral.

In the western corner of the square is a statue of the Little Prince, inspired by a famous children's story by author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The statue is placed here in honor of the legendary writer born in Lyon, depicting him sitting in front of his brainchild.

Not only Bellecour, the statue of King Louis XIV riding a horse is a feature of squares all over France. The first version was destroyed during the French Revolution and replaced in the 1800s.

When winter covers the whole square in a very romantic atmosphere, it is also the time for visitors to enjoy fun skating moments. Come Christmas, the boys and girls will surely fall in love with the giant ferris wheel here. The large square is also a venue for concerts, live events, and rallies and demonstrations.

Over the centuries, the square has changed its name many times, reflecting France's constantly changing views on the monarchy. At first it was called the Beautiful Garden, then the Royal Square, then in honor of the king, it became the Place Louis the Great. During the French Revolution, it was known as Liberation Square and Equality Square.
