The first Korean musical theater based in the far East Central Asia region in 1932 was founded in Almaty in 1923 by Koreans expelled by the Soviet government. By September 1937, part of the troupe was moved to the cities of Kzyl-Orda and Tashkent. Experiencing many ups and downs of history, the theater moved its headquarters to the ancient capital Almaty in 1968. After nearly 100 years of operation, the theater has had more than 250 art performances attracting more than 5 million spectators. . The theater's repertoire is based on Korean artistic traditions, performed in Korean and translated into Kazakh and Russian.

The main task of the troupe is to preserve and enrich Korean cultural traditions through art performances with friends around the world. The theater's actors have toured to Moscow, Seoul and Vladivostok. In 2012, a museum was established on the theater grounds on the occasion of its 80th anniversary.
