Dak Glei Prison is the place where famous revolutionary poets and political prisoners were imprisoned. This is the red address of a time of fierce war, which has become a symbol of the revolution about patriotism, the intense vitality of the land and people of Kon Tum.

Located about 30km northeast of Dak Glei district center, Dak Glei prison located in Dak Choong commune is a famous historical relic of Kon Tum province, recognized by the Ministry of Culture as a National Historic Site. on December 30, 1991. With a plot to control the entire Central Highlands in 1921, the French colonialists opened the 14th road from Kon Tum to Dak To - Dak Pet - Dak Glei. The prison was built in 1932, initially consisting of only two small buildings: the guard station and the prison area to house local prisoners, who refused to obey and refused to make roads for them. These two areas are adjacent to each other, made of wood, cork, thatched, surrounded by a very thick barbed wire fence and densely planted. But after the revolutionary movement of 1936 - 1939, the French colonialists built more works "Can An Tri" to pledge life-sentenced communist soldiers and to isolate influential revolutionary activists. large in the population.

Dak Glei Prison used to hold typical revolutionaries such as: Le Van Hien, Chu Huy Man, Tran Van Tra, Nguyen Duy Trinh, To Huu, Ha Phu Huong, Huynh Ngoc Hue,... However, the name Dak Glei Prison became familiar and known by the people by the name of Prison To Huu because of the spectacular prison escape story in 1942 of the poet and revolutionary To Huu. After the prison break, the French colonialists terrorized political prisoners and built more solitary confinement in Dak Glei prison, they arrested our comrades in Cang An Loc and imprisoned them in solitary confinement.

After the war, Dak Glei prison was damaged almost completely, until 1991, after being recognized as a national historical relic by the State, from the invested funds, Kon Tum province repaired the house. prison, restoring the original state of the fort, 3 rooms in the An Tri area and the solitary confinement room. In addition, an area simulating the scene of prisoners being forced to do hard labor such as road construction, bridge construction... with a group of composite statues was also restored on a hill a few hundred meters from the prison. Currently, the historical cluster of Dak Glei Prison has been restored and embellished, the road system to the monument is also invested and built conveniently, this place has become a destination for tourists to learn about history. has great educational significance, a proud symbol for the resilient fighting spirit of revolutionary soldiers.
