Mardi Gras in French means Fat Tuesday, the day dedicated to eating a lot of fat before Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday. The Mardi Gras festival usually lasts 2 weeks, ending on "Shrove Tuesday", the day before Ash Wednesday. The festival was brought to New Orleans by French immigrants and became popular in the late 19th century.
The festival includes many entertainment activities such as parades, music, parties, masquerade parties, etc., which take place every day. The closer to the end of the festival, the more lively the atmosphere becomes.
During these days, the whole French Quarter is crowded with people to visit and have fun, especially Bourbon Street, the main street where the most people gather.
