Nature has endowed Ha Long Bay with many unique shaped limestone mountains and beautiful caves. In which, Luon Cave is always chosen as one of the favorite destinations of international tourists when coming to Ha Long. This is also an attractive place for visitors to kayak to explore the natural beauty of Ha Long Bay.
Luon Cave is an open cave, located on Bo Hon Island, 1km from Sung Sot Cave, about 14km from Tuan Chau Island to the Southeast. To visit the cave, visitors will have to buy tickets to visit the bay, train tickets and depart from one of the following two ports: Tuan Chau International Port and Ha Long International Port. Note that Luon cave is only available on route 2.
The reason it is called Luon Cave is because this is a narrow cave entrance, going through the mountain to get inside. Luon Cave has a length of nearly 60m, the roof of the cave is about 2m to 4m high depending on the tide of the day. This is the only entrance inside the lake area about 1km2 wide, green and calm, the lake is surrounded by towering mountains around. In the past, every time a storm came or heavy rain or strong wind arose, fishermen fishing on the bay with small boats that could not get ashore to avoid storms often chose this as a place to avoid storms. Currently, Luon Cave has become an attractive place to visit for tourists from all over the world.
The landscape around Luon cave still retains many wild features and rich mountain vegetation. Especially, visitors coming here can also see the golden monkeys, the main inhabitants living on the mountain. According to the staff of the Ha Long Bay Management Board, there are about 50 golden monkeys living in the Luon cave area. The monkeys here are very friendly and approachable. Because there is not much fruit in the mountain season, they will go down to the mouth of the cave to wait for food from the Bay Management Board or ask for food from visitors. The funny actions of the golden monkeys always bring visitors excitement. Coming to Luon Cave, you will participate in an extremely interesting experience. When you can rent a bamboo boat in a shared or private way to explore and admire the beauty of the cave.
