Ha Long Bay has thousands of large and small islands, along with a system of magnificent and fanciful caves, creating an interesting destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Bo Nau Cave is one of the caves not to be missed during a visit to the bay.
Bo Nau cave is about 13km from Tuan Chau international cruise port, about 11km from Ha Long international passenger port. To visit the cave, visitors will go to one of the two ports above to buy boat tickets and tickets to visit the bay. Note when buying tickets to visit, Bo Nau Cave is only in tourist route 2.
The name of Bo Nau cave is unknown since when, no one knows, currently there are 2 theories about the name of the cave. Hypothesis 1, according to many people, the cave used to be a shelter from the cold of the Pelicans flying from the North, so people often called it Bo Nong cave, but later read it as Bo Nau. As for the second hypothesis, the name Bo Nau cave was formed when the fishermen of the fishing village often chose the cave as a place to dye their sails with brown fruit, later called Bo Nau cave.
From a distance, visitors will see that the area in front of the cave has a short sandy beach, the cave has the shape of a frog's jaw, with an area of about 200m2, the bottom is wide but not deep, the wall has many stalactites. The ceiling of the cave is dome-shaped like a shell facing down, creating a feeling like the ceiling of a theater. The inside of the cave stands out with three stone slabs shaped like three fairies playing chess with the posture of 2 players and a referee. Going deep into the cave, the wild scenery makes anyone who comes here admire. The cave is a favorite stop for overnight boats on the bay, then visitors can use their own kayaks to paddle through the cave to explore the cave naturally.
Bo Nau cave has been discovered for a long time, but the beauty of Bo Nau cave is really widely known through the photo taken by author Nguyen Duy Kien in 1958. The picture captures the scene from the inside to the outside of the cave. In the cave, right at the shop are stalactites falling down, in front of the cave is the image of crimson sails and undulating mountains, the photo has fully described the natural beauty of the cave. The photo was famous at that time and was symbolic of Ha Long Bay until later.
