Iho Beach (aka Iho Tewoo Beach) is the perfect addition to a day of sightseeing in Jeju City. A curving sandy bay replaces a maze of compact roads, and the noise of traffic gives way to the soothing sound of ripples. Spend a day swimming, fishing, watching planes land, and visiting Jeju's unique horse lighthouses.
Summer, when the sun is shining and the water is gentle, is a great time for a swim on the beach. Have fun jumping in the waves and lying on your back on the inflatable floats available for hire. Stroll along the breakwater, where fishermen gather and wait patiently in hopes of catching ocean-going ships. Fishing trips depart from the small marina, and sashimi restaurants are plentiful.
Walk to the north end of the bay and then along a pier to see two large horse-shaped lighthouses. These twin structures, one red and one white, represent a breed of horse native to Jeju. You can also take some photos and admire the seascape.
Another leisure activity to do here is to sit and watch the planes come and go from Jeju International Airport. The roar of engines momentarily interrupted the peaceful coastal atmosphere. In addition, wandering among the trees in the small forest along the bay is also a good experience. There are campsites here, if you want to bring a tent and spend the night a few steps from the sea.
Iho Beach is about 40 minutes by bus from downtown Jeju. Parking is available and there are other amenities such as changing rooms, toilets and showers. Look for cafes, restaurants, supermarkets and accommodation options on the beach road. Dodubong Peak, a small parasitic volcano, is located a short distance from the coast.
