Tai Tuyet Regenerating Forest has long been an important logging area in central Taiwan. Currently, the area for outdoor activities and discovery is a part of the regenerating forest with a rich and diverse ecosystem, including plant and animal species that grow and develop in the tropical temperate zone. , forming a typical conifer-broadleaf mixed forest.
The upper layer of the forest is mainly coniferous, red cypress, Taiwanese yellow cypress, Taiwanese spruce, red cypress and Taiwanese red pine. It is also the most abundant medium-altitude bird habitat in Taiwan. Dai Tuyet regenerated forest is located at an altitude of 1000 to 2996 meters above sea level, the climate is humid and cool maintaining an average annual temperature of 12ºC, making it a popular summer destination. . Blooming spring, maple leaf fall, white snow in winter... all create a beautiful natural scene that changes with the seasons of the area. And the best time to explore Dai Tuyet Son is in the summer from April to June, when the weather is neither too hot nor too cold. The view of the night sky and the clouds forming against the mountains is a beautiful sight that is certainly not found anywhere else.
There is a main route for those who love trekking to explore the primeval forest: the Shaolai - Xiaoxueshan national trail has a length of 9km and a forest trail has a length of 5km. The Shaolai – Xiaoxueshan route is chosen by many adventurous travelers because it stretches throughout the length of the park, bringing visitors to explore the rich flora and fauna. If you are not a professional trekker, you can choose the 5km route, located at the end of the park, quite flat and it only takes you about 2 hours to complete.
It is a familiar destination for locals, especially on weekends. So if you do not want to be crowded with many tourist groups, please arrange your schedule and come to explore Dai Tuyet Son on weekdays.
From Taichung city center, there is a bus route that takes you straight to the edge of the forest, the frequency is 3 times a day, some transfers only operate on weekends and the travel time is about 3.5-4 hours so you need to be prepared mentally for a 1 or 2 night stay at hotels and motels around the national park area.
