Profile
Pratunam Market is located at the intersection of Ratchaprop and Petchburi roads (next to Amari Watergate Bangkok hotel). The Pratunam Wholesale Market is brimming with shops and small stalls that spill onto the sidewalks and stretch as far as Baiyoke Towers I and Baiyoke Towers II on Ratchaprarop Soi 3.
Coming here, you not only have a shopping experience, the market also offers an immersion into the lifestyle of the locals - vendors work with sewing machines, pack, release orders, stack trolleys up and down the narrow aisles and shouts in the process. It provides a clear view of the long-standing traditional shopping activities of the people of Bangkok before the arrival of air-conditioned shopping malls.
Shops and stalls at Pratunam market display a wide range of clothing, from shorts, t-shirts, formal evening dresses, vests, winter coats to exotic outfits. The section near Petchaburi Road is swarming with embroidered and extravagant costumes (e.g. sequins, feathers and beads).
Going deeper, near Baiyoke Tower I, the items become less fancy and more suitable for everyday wear. Modern fashions such as jeans, bikinis, t-shirts and safari pants are in abundance on the aisle opposite the entrance of the Baiyoke Suite hotel.
Pratunam Market targets middle and low income buyers, so the prices are somewhat cheap, of course the price reflects the quality but the customers here can accept that. Stores offer wholesale prices when you buy 3 or more, although sometimes buying individual pieces won't charge you more. Bargaining is acceptable but there is no need to haggle much because the items are already very cheap.
The market does not have a set opening time. Retail stores open between 10am and 9pm, but this can change from time to time. For visitors and shoppers, the best time to go is between 11am and 8pm.
Some general rules: No exchanges, no tries, and no refunds.
