The Las Vegas Museum of Natural History was founded on the awareness of the great community need for a museum that fosters appreciation and understanding of global, past and present life forms. In February 1989, a small group of concerned citizens asked the Las Vegas City Council to assist in finding a home for its collection of wildlife and prehistoric artifacts. Accordingly, the city of Las Vegas purchased a proposed building to house the Museum. This building is rented for a dollar a year; however, the museum is responsible for its renovation, maintenance and operations.

The museum opened on July 16, 1991 with the support of local businesses and individuals and is located on Las Vegas Boulevard across from the Las Vegas Library, which is part of the downtown area. called the Cultural Corridor. It features a world-class multi-million dollar collection that creates a fun interactive and learning experience. From the desert to the ocean, from Nevada to Africa, from prehistory to the present, the Las Vegas Museum of Natural History takes young and old alike on a learning adventure around the world.

Some permanent exhibitions held at the museum attract the attention of visitors such as:

Treasures of Egypt: Here, visitors will discover how archaeologists in the early 20th century unearthed some of Egypt's most famous treasures, including Tutankhamun's tomb. Exhibits include a trip through the actual entrance to Tut's tomb and a chance to see artifact reconstructions including the Throne, the chariot, the Golden Temple, and the coffin. These copies are one of only two authorized by the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities. Visitors can also explore an Egyptian mummy using state-of-the-art technology that allows users to "scan" a replica of the mummy in real time and view realistic medical images of a real mummy.

Prehistoric Gallery: People can learn more about Ichthyosaurs - marine reptiles similar to today's extinct dolphins, or one of the largest tyrannosaurs of the time - Shonisaurus (state fossils) Nevada) reaches a length of 18 to 21 m.
