Located on Henri Dunant Road, opposite Chulalongkorn University, Royal Bangkok Sports Club is a reputable, private entity that organizes equestrian events open to the public every Sunday. Horse racing first appeared in Thailand 100 years ago when King Rama V returned from a state visit to Europe in 1897. Officials and students studying in Europe organized a racing event horses at Phra Main Court (now called Sanam Luang). This has led to the popularity of Western equestrianism in Thailand. Not long after, the king donated a piece of land to make the country's first racecourse, this is the birthplace of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club.

This is usually a place reserved for the rich, prestigious sports clubs provide a playground for the elite in the country, where members have exclusive rights to enjoy many sports facilities such as a standard swimming pool. Betting is allowed and is at 50 baht (you collect money if the horse you bet reaches the finish line first). Of course, gambling is illegal in Thailand, but betting on horses seems to be the only exception.
