Located about 12km from My Tho city, Dong Tam snake farm is known as one of the most unique and attractive eco-tourism sites in Tien Giang in particular and in the Mekong Delta in general.

Dong Tam Snake Farm was established in 1979 by Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Duoc with the desire to build a farm to raise different types of snakes for medical and commercial purposes. The farm covers an area of 12 hectares including simulated wild areas surrounded by ditches for snakes and areas for other animals such as sheep, ostriches, golden turtles, tigers, crocodiles, etc.

The snake farming area in the form of an island lake has a depth of about 30-40cm, in the middle is a small island with dense vegetation, which is home to toads, frogs, bullfrogs, etc., which are the main food sources of snakes here.

The venomous snake farming area consists of many separate cages, the owner must be extremely careful when opening the cage and must regularly check to detect the abnormal condition of the snakes for timely treatment because even though their venom can kill people. But it can also save many lives. Some types of venomous snakes at Dong Tam snake farm are krait snakes, three-headed snakeheads, etc., especially the king cobra - an extremely venomous snake that is ranked "E" in the Vietnam Red Book.

During the trip to the snake world at Dong Tam snake farm, visitors will learn about the history of Dong Tam farm, be provided with information on how to treat snake bites, demonstrate venom extraction and some other techniques. its use. At some cages, guides even pull out a snake for visitors to take pictures and explain about the different types of snakes.

A representative of Dong Tam snake farm said that every year, Dong Tam saves about 500 lives, often poor patients in the Mekong Delta who come here in critical condition due to snake bites.
