This is Japan's only museum dedicated to beer, which explores the long history of Sapporo beer, one of the oldest and most popular beer brands in the country.

Sapporo Beer Museum (Sapporo Beer Hakubutsukan) opened in 1987 in a former Meiji era brewery, and just reopened to the public in April 2016 after undergoing a complete renovation. Now, the three-story brick building is a modern museum that introduces the history of beer production in Japan with exhibits explaining the beer making process, as well as the history of the Sapporo beer brand from its first brewery in Japan. Tokyo's Ginza district is by far one of the four major breweries in Japan along with Kirin, Asahi and Suntory.

The exhibits inside showcase the design of Sapporo beer bottles over the years, and the posters promoting Sapporo beer feature some great graphics from the 1920s and 1930s as well as more recent posters. There is also a historical collection of wooden Sapporo icons from breweries across Japan and an introduction to the evolution of the iconic Sapporo Black Label. Finally, visitors can enjoy Sapporo beer and purchase Sapporo beer products at the beer hall after completing the museum tour.

In addition, the Beer Museum also offers a paid premium tour (with a guide) where you can sample the original “Fukkoku Sapporo Bakushu”, a unique beer brewed according to the method. It has been used since 1881, giving you the opportunity to discover the passion that Japanese brewers put into their work to make the final product taste so much better.

Next to the museum is the Sapporo Beer Garden, housed in a red brick building that used to be a sugar mill and a malt factory. Inside are restaurants that serve Sapporo draft beer straight from the brewery, and enjoy the local specialty lamb BBQ named after the famous Mongolian King Gengis Khan. is Jingisukan).
