The Gae Aulenti Square is the heart of Milan's most modern neighborhood. The square was inaugurated on December 8, 2012 and is dedicated to the famous female architect Gae Aulenti.

The Gae Aulenti Square and its surrounding buildings are the result of the rebirth of the Garibaldi, Isola and Varesine neighborhoods. The area is a mix between the historic center of the city and the financial district.

The redevelopment plan was directed by Argentine architect Cesar Pelli and its main nucleus is the Gae Aulenti Square, 6 meters above the street.

The square is surrounded by various buildings, all of which are of surprising design. Most impressive is the 231-meter-high Unicredit Tower, currently the tallest skyscraper in Italy.

One of the other highlights is the Vertical Forest, a pair of towers covered with 2,000 species of plants.

A bridge connects the square to Corso Como, one of Milan's liveliest streets lined with shops, restaurants and bars.

The modern and innovative aspect of the Fae Aulenti Square lives in harmony with the surrounding buildings and with the illumination of the area.

As the sun sets, the square comes to life with a light, music and water show. Furthermore, the Solar Tree in the center of the square illuminates the area with solar powered LED lights.

The Gae Aulenti Square has become one of the top attractions in Milan. To enjoy one of the best panoramic views of Milan, you can climb to the top of the Unicredit building.

Also worth mentioning is Piazza Gae Aulenti, along with Navigli, one of the best places to go out at night. It offers loads of trendy clubs, restaurants and bars.
