Profile
Montparnasse Tower is one of the rare skyscrapers in Paris, making the beautiful view from the 56th floor observatory almost unique. In addition to a high-end restaurant, the 210-meter-high tower is mainly used for offices and residences. The observatory offers sweeping views of even the most beloved sites like the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe.
From most of the city, visitors can see the tower rising above the Paris skyline. Minimalist design with contrasting dark tones but not out of place in the rustic and romantic atmosphere of the capital. The construction of the building was controversial, because it was considered that the tower was too prominent against the city landscape. The mysterious black tower that rises above the parks and streets will save visitors wonderful images.
From the observation point on the 56th floor, the whole city spreads out in front of visitors. Climbing up 3 more floors, the scene will make visitors admire. On clear days, visibility is up to 40 km in all directions. When night falls, from the observatory, the view of the city and the Eiffel Tower shimmers in the sea of light. Montparnasse Tower is often preferred over the Eiffel Tower, because it is less crowded and the view is better. While visiting, you can browse the gift shops specializing in Parisian accents and stop by a cafe and choose a drink.
When completed in 1973, the tower was the tallest structure in Europe. Later, a law was introduced prohibiting the construction of buildings higher than 7 floors in the city center. In 1995, French urban climber Alain, nicknamed "Spider-Man," climbed the skyscraper without any safety equipment, repeating his courageous act in 2004 and 2015 to support charities.
The tower charges an entrance fee but offers discounts for students, youth, and children. Opening hours are from morning until late at night.
Montparnasse Tower is located in the 15th arrondissement, about 3 km southwest of central Paris. The metro takes you to Montparnasse Bienvenüe station just outside the tower.
