Stepping inside the restaurant, guests will probably remember Baz Luhrmann's romantic musical Moulin Rouge with Spanish style. The space inside the MAD was designed by the famous Barcelona interior designer - Lázaro Rosa-Violán with inspiration from Madrid's food, cinema, music and theater in the 70s and 80s. This 122-seat restaurant is really eye-catching with its hot design with leopard and bear motifs, bulls, flamenco dancers and velvet reds, velvet oranges, neon colors.
The aesthetic is also a highlight of the space. In a seating area, a series of Picasso plaques are hung in a row, depicting a bullfight. In several corners of the ceiling and central point of the open kitchen are hand-blown glass chandeliers by renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly. The main highlight of the entire restaurant space is the repeating image of a bear - a symbol of Marid dating back to the 13th century, when the bear first appeared on the city's coat of arms. At the same time, this is also the restaurant's logo with the theme "from MAD to the moon".
MAD's menu features modern Spanish dishes - chef Luis Roger has transformed every dish a little crazy with a nice surprise. Diners are encouraged to try the tartare or carp cooked with Norwegian crayfish and then switch to truffle bread (a steamed bread filled with seasonal truffle aioli and shaved truffle). For diners looking for something from the mainland, chuleton de buey is the go-to, a 32 oz (1kg) ribeye steak with piquillo peppers that's sweet, not too spicy.
The restaurant's wine list isn't overwhelming, making room for outstanding cocktails. Especially, MAD's Sandia Sagrada Gin & Tonic sold out 150 batches in just one night.
MAD's use of the highest quality ingredients, creativity at every angle and passion for the unexpected are the cornerstones of the restaurant's culinary philosophy.
