The Rising Sun (RSR) was held at a special outdoor venue; Tarukawa pier is part of the new port in Ishikari Bay, only about 40 minutes by car or bus from Sapporo JR station. The festival usually takes place every summer, around mid-August, and always opens on a Friday and ends on Sunday morning, right after sunrise, hence the name of the festival. from now.
At the beginning, RSR had only one stage and very few artists attended. It gained considerable popularity over the next few years and by 2007 had more than six stages and 100 different artists performing. This is not a small festival, but the limited seating capacity of many of its smaller stages makes it not one of the largest festivals in Japan, although it has experienced massive growth as so over the past decade.
Although this is a rock festival, there are also many other genres of music performed on seven stages, from jazz to hip hop to dance. RSR does not have many international artists involved, instead it is most popular with local groups, with some famous Japanese rock groups.
Music parties go on continuously throughout the night on the second day, ending shortly after 4 a.m. when the sun begins to rise. Guests can enjoy music any way they want: lying on the grass, setting up a picnic tent, enjoying a BBQ in the background music.
With fresh air and a large venue surrounded by Hokkaido's rich nature, the numerous food stalls have made the festival popular with performers and fans alike. Music fans, including families, flocked from all over the country to come here to fully experience rock and other genres.
