Profile
The Montreal Jazz Festival was first organized in 1979 by Alain Simard in association with André Ménard, Denyse McCann and Alain de Grosbois with the desire to bring jazz artists and music to the music-loving public. As a result, a non-profit organization was established in 1981 to popularize jazz and other jazz-related music through the organization of free outdoor music programs. Since then, people's interest in jazz music has steadily increased, and the Montreal Jazz Festival event is not only a springboard for talented musicians but also a tourist attraction of the city.
The Montreal Jazz Festival is held in late June and early July for 10 days. During the festival period, some downtown areas were closed to accommodate 2.5 million visitors to 650 indoor and outdoor concerts, more than 400 of which are free. Here, 3000 artists from 30 different countries attended and 10 prestigious awards were awarded. This festival employs more than 1000 employees and consumes 60,009 liters of beer during the festival period.
