The world has admired the Taj Mahal in India as a proof of love, but in the city of Toronto (Ontario Province, Canada) there is also another "Taj Mahal" named Casa Loma Castle. Casa Loma Castle is located on a hill - as it is meant to be, at the corner of Spadina and Davenpor streets, less than 10 minutes from the city center.
As proof of his love for his wife, Sir Henry Mill Pellatt built Casa Loma castle as a gift for his partner, Mary Pellatt. Designed by architect EJ Lennox, construction began in 1911 and was completed in 1914.
Casa Loma Castle is famous for its lavish architecture. With all 98 rooms, each room has its own beauty. The most prominent of which is The Oak Room. The room is paved almost entirely with wood. The wood panels are carved in the very elaborate Grinling Gibbons style. Calculated, the processing and shaping time for the wood panels in this room is 3 years. The ceiling of the room is decorated with plaster, shaped by the talented hands of Italian artists. The details in the room are highlighted by the deliberate use of light by the designers.
In addition to the luxurious rooms, Casa Loma castle also has special architecture such as the Seven-Storied Tower. Moving up the tower by a spiral staircase, narrow and high, the payoff for the visitor's sweat is the panoramic view of Toronto from the castle. Visiting the castle, you can find secret passages so that the owner of the castle can escape like in detective stories. In addition, Casa Loma castle has a tunnel more than 200m long, located 5m deep below the ground. This is the secret exit for the owner of the castle. Well, this secret was revealed to the visitors.
Besides the architectural charm, when visiting Casa Loma, you can also participate in special events organized by the castle management team:
- On summer nights, Casa Loma castle has romantic concerts at the flower garden, enhancing the charm of the castle in the cool summer night.
- Every November, in line with Halloween, Casa Loma castle will turn into a ghost castle. There can be no more attractive haunted house than Casa Loma, because of the architecture itself, and the stories surrounding it at night. Surely, your heart will flutter when you visit the castle around this time. A little advice, if you have a little heart problem, you should visit the castle at another time.
- What if you want to be more dramatic? Transform into James Bond when participating in the game Escape from the Tower (escape from the tower). Set in 1941, when World War II is happening. The British army used the castle as a secret research site for its new military inventions. You will have to decipher, track, pretend to be a spy, to be able to break out of the castle's tower in the allotted time.
