Located in the north of the Akmola plateau, 250km from the capital Nursultan, Burabay National Park is a shining gem with majestic nature with many hidden mysteries waiting for you to discover. The beautiful pine forests, the cliffs made up of huge natural bricks and the strangely shaped peaks resembling the pyramids of Egypt separated by clear blue lakes… all Both give Burabay a unique charm that is not found anywhere else.
Burabay National Park was established in August 2000 with an extremely large area of 83,511 hectares, including 47,600 hectares of forest. In 2010, the park area was expanded to 129,935 hectares. The territory of the national park is part of the Kokshetau steppe, a mixed forest and hilly steppe. The climate here is characterized by a typical continental climate, with an average temperature of 10 O C-22 O C in the summer (from May to October) and quite harsh in the winter from November to April. The amount of snow is about 25-35cm thick. The average annual rainfall is about 300 mm.
Burabay has an extremely rich flora and fauna. There are a total of 757 types of plants, of which 119 need to be protected and 12 are registered in the Red Book. The forest has 65% pines, 31% birch, 3% gorse and 1% shrubs. With the diversity of flora, the fauna is very rich including 305 species of animals accounting for 36% of the total fauna of Kazakhstan, of which 13 species are registered in the Red Book. The wildlife of Burabay is much richer than that of the surrounding steppes with species typical of steppe and forest ecosystems, some migratory from Siberia, the South and the North. Currently, Burabay has many different species of deer including star deer, elk, wild boar, squirrel, stork, mink and marten. Predators include wolves and lynx. In addition, it is home to many species of birds, especially ducks and wading birds, including goldeneye, mallard, gadwall, boreal pintail, ruddy shelducks, plovers, northern hybrids, sandpipers, sandpipers green. The number of duck species increases massively in the fall and during the migration season.
Nature has generously endowed this land with an extremely rich ecosystem, especially mountains and giant cliffs with thrilling stories and legends. Among them are the "inaccessible" cliff of Okzhetpes with its peak resembling a cub, or the cliff of Zhumbaktas with a mysterious sphinx. In addition, in the territory of Burabay there are 14 large freshwater lakes (each with an area of more than 1km) and numerous smaller lakes. The largest lakes are Bolshoye Chebachyeand Maloye Chebachye, Shchuchye and Borovoye.
According to legend, Borovoye is a priceless gift from the Creator dedicated to Kazakhstan, where there is a majestic and picturesque natural scenery, a rare harmonious combination of mountains, forests, lakes and rich and diverse flora and fauna…all create a "Pearl of Kazakhstan".
