Profile
Shinsage is a Korean franchise store that, along with several other businesses, is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. The name Shinsegae literally means "New World" in Korean. Its flagship store in Centum City, Busan, is the largest department store in the world at 293,900 square feet, larger than the flagship Herald Square of the Macy's Shopping Center in New York City in 2009. Therefore, on June 26, 2009, Shinsegae Centum City was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the largest shopping complex in the world.
Shinsegae was originally part of Samsung Corporation, which was spun off in the 1990s from Samsung Corporation along with CJ Corporation (Food/Chemical/Entertainment), Saehan Corporation (Electronic Vehicles/Apparel/ Textiles) and Hansol Corporation (Paper/Telecommunications). Shinsegae is also famous for its long history. The main branch of Shinsegae is the oldest department store in Korea. The store's main building was opened in 1930 as the Gyeongseong branch of Mitsukoshi, a Japanese franchise; Korea was occupied by the Japanese Empire at that time. The store was acquired in 1945 by the late founder of Samsung group, Lee Byung-chull and was renamed Donghwa Department Store. After the Korean War (1950–1953) began, it was used by the US military for several years as a postal exchange. In 1963, the store was named Shinsegae. Shinsegae is also the first credit card company in Korea. They issued their own charge cards between 1967 and 2000. In 2000, Shinsegae sold their credit card division to KorAm Bank, which was later acquired by Citibank Korea.
Shinsegae Centum City is not only a large-scale shopping paradise but also has relaxing and entertainment facilities such as the Korean traditional jjimjilbang (Spa Land), an ice skating rink (Ice Rink) and a compound cinema (CGV). ). On the 9th floor terrace of Shinsegae also has ZOORAJI, an outdoor amusement park with giant dinosaurs, pirate ships, original African village and other exciting adventures.
