Kaindy is a famous mountain lake, part of the Tian Shan mountain range of Kazakhstan, located next to the city center of Almaty. An earthquake in 1911 caused a major landslide in the Tian Shan mountain area, contributing to a natural dam with abundant water resources. The heavy rains then poured into the valley and created a lake with a mysterious but extremely beautiful natural landscape, captivating the hearts of those who love wild nature.

Lake Kaindy (in the local language means birch tree or landslide) has a length of 400 meters, a depth of 30 meters. 130km southeast of Almaty city center and 2,000 meters above sea level, Lake Kaindy is one of the famous tourist attractions of Kazakhstan.

Located within the Kolsay Lakes National Park, the lake was formed by the 1911 Kenbin earthquake that caused a large limestone landslide, forming a large natural dam across a gorge. Later, it was filled with rain and river water to create a lake with a majestic natural landscape. The lake is made up of a large number of limestone, sedimentary rocks, creating a beautiful blue lake surface.

The uniqueness of the lake lies in the fact that after the appearance of a natural dam across the gorge, the water overflowed into the dam to form a large lake and did not destroy the spruce trees growing nearby. The upper part of the trees that rose out of the water lost their edges and the bark and wood turned white. When you accidentally step foot into this mysterious natural picture, you will feel like you are witnessing a sinking fleet: the bare trunks are like the masts of sunken ships in the vast ocean. The trees along with the emerald green water of the lake create an extremely impressive natural scene. At the bottom of the lake where there is a rich flora, visitors will be able to encounter surreal images of a vast and vast primeval underwater forest. As soon as you get close to the lake, the water will become crystal clear, and sometimes you can see salmon swimming around.

Surprisingly, not too many tourists visit Kaindy Lake as it is hidden by the nearby Bolshoe Almatinskoe and Kolsay Lakes. So, despite being located near a densely populated city of more than one million inhabitants, Lake Kaindy retains a peaceful atmosphere and has become a popular international tourist destination in recent years.

From Almaty city center, visitors can take a taxi or bus to Kaindy Lake. But it is best to book a package tour to have a safe trip and full of exciting experiences with this beautiful natural landscape. You can experience horseback riding to explore the beautiful forest roads around the lake area.
