As you walk through the narrow, knotted alleyways of Antalya's old town, you might feel a little jolt to think that Antalya's inhabitants walked these streets more than 2,000 years ago. With traces of Antalya's distant past, Kaleiçi is a peaceful place to stroll, far from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Kaleici can be visited at all hours of the day but the best time is in the evening. Many of Kaleici's historic homes and residences have been restored and a large number of them are being used as hotels, resorts, bars and shops. Antalya is not a city of sun, sea and sand. It has a great history, especially in the Kaleici district.
Start your visit to Antalya in the historic city center, home to Hadrian's Gate, Hidirlik Tower, Yivli Minaret, Kesik Minaret and Kaleici with its narrow streets, historic houses and quaint harbor. An important architectural landmark that defines Kaleiçi's silhouette is Kesik Minare (Broken Minaret) – a mosque that was badly damaged in a fire in the 19th century. This mosque was originally built as a mosque. It was built on the site of a Roman temple and Byzantine basilica, and in 2019 its tower was added a new conical crown. Another symbol is the pyramidal clock tower that stands guard at the entrance to the old town opposite the 17th-century Tekeli Mehmet Pasa Mosque. It is one of the last of the 80 towers in the wall. defense Antalya. All are located in an area of 1km square. Visitors can visit all these spots on foot as cars are prohibited on some streets.
Kaleici, the pearl of Antalya, witnessing history from the past, transports visitors into the past with its houses, narrow streets, vestiges of Greek, Seljuk and Ottoman architecture. The historic basin of Antalya, Kaleici is surrounded by two fortified walls and is bordered on one side by a semicircular marina.
This quaint harborside town has everything perfect for a seaside town, offering great things to please all visitors.
Most of the shops in the old town of Kaleici sell gifts and souvenirs aimed at the tourist market. The hotels, restaurants and bars in Kaleici all have patios. On summer afternoons, it's fun to enjoy a cold drink in one of these tree-lined courtyards. There are also many cafes, bars and restaurants that overlook the sea from the city walls.
Antalya's old harbor was restored in the 1980s, and it was recognized with the Council of Europe's Golden Apple award.
The old town of Kaleici is also home to colorful entertainment centers. Visitors can be swept up in the music blaring from the side streets, enjoy a drink or dance in the bars and restaurants with live music and all open late into the night or can make friends with people of different nationalities.
