The Mucem is a contemporary architectural masterpiece on the Marseille waterfront, connecting an ancient fortress with modern exhibition spaces dedicated to Mediterranean cultures. This museum symbolizes the intersection of past and future, offering profound insights into the history and anthropology of the nations surrounding the sea basin.

Inaugurated in 2013, MuCEM is a cutting-edge museum that recreates part of Marseille's waterfront next to the 17th-century Fort Saint-Jean.
The architecture is breathtaking, but what's inside is actually quite hard to summarize: It's a kind of overview of Mediterranean culture, a civilization, that combines art, photography exhibits and artefacts history.
Most visitors agree that the exhibits are not consistent, leaping from period to period and thematic, but they are so diverse that there are galleries to draw in everyone's attention.
The entrance to the fortress, built by Louis XIV, is included in the ticket, and the structure is connected to the museum by two bridges.
