The museum was founded in 1982 by Bernard Chardère, Maurice Trarieux – Lumière and grandson of Louis Lumière. Among them, the Cinematograph machine was called "n°1", who screened the first ten films on the evening of December 28, 1895 at the Grand Café in Paris in front of 33 curious people who became the first audience.
