Nestled on the top floor of the Louis Vuitton Las Vegas Crystals, you'll find artwork created by James Turrell regarded as one of today's finest contemporary artists, indeed, Akhob promises. promises not to disappoint visitors.
Akhob is one of three works of art by Turrell in Las Vegas, its name is an Egyptian term for "pure water" referring to the effect of light washing the eyes of the visitor. At first, Akhob was exclusively for VIP shoppers. Perhaps, the original purpose of luxury brands was to make the customer's shopping experience more special. As the years passed, Akhob became open to the public free of charge, but it was still very foreign to everyone.
After checking in, visitors are escorted to the 4th floor in the elevator, asked to wear shoes to keep dirt out of the building's all-white floor, and given a summary of how the experience will unfold. Then, one by one, they were invited to climb the stairs and begin their tour. Akhob is designed with two rooms with synchronized retinal lighting and highly pigmented light fields, providing near-psychedelic depth perception to visitors. The effect is created to give your eyes a soft, soothing watery with the most vibrant colors imaginable. It changes rapidly from one color to another on a cycle that lasts for 24 minutes. Sometimes, the exact combination of colors makes it nearly impossible for a visitor to find the door he or she has just entered.
One thing that visitors should keep in mind is that photography is not allowed during the entire experience because the way installation art is judged is through experience and taking pictures will make it impossible not only for the visitor but also others fully experience it.
Although now open to the public, visiting '"Akhob" still requires an appointment by phone or in person.
